Its been a while - and sadly, despite the fact that I am in my last year before I turn 25, I’ve barely accomplished anything on my list.
Nevertheless! I have been able to complete a few of them!
7. Take a course in something I am interested in
I for one, DETEST that I’m 24 and cannot finish what I started. I started social work and DESPISED it, therefor decided to take some time off, and unfortunately nearly four years later, and 2 college/university applications later, im still taking that “time off”
SO I hauled ass and actually have realistic September plans. More on that later.
13. Make a close friend from scratch
I came to Ottawa to help my sister out, and have had some pretty sad days since I got here. Life has been so much better since my best friend from home moved here to live with me, but better than that, I even have a group of pals here.
I’ve been working at a grocery shop for nearly a year, and started chumming around with one girl, quite frequently. She’s a bit younger, but we’re the same height so really, its no matter. I randomly and quickly started opening up to her about stuff that I would usually only tell Sarah. It was only a few weeks ago when I was thinking about this list and I realized “hey…I think I’ve made a close friend from scratch!”
Note: You know who you are, if I ever cave and give you the link to my blog…thank you ;) youre an amazing friend. meow, glubb glubb :P

12. Go to a movie or dinner alone
I’ve been back in my home town for roughly 7 weeks and it hasn’t exactly been the vacation I’d imagined it to be. It has involved a lot of weird closure, and a lot of crazy decisions (Did I mention I’m moving to Quebec? FRENCH LAND, HERE COMES SARAH! OUI!)
Needless to say, I discovered a lot of my old friends have really moved on with their lives and it took me so long to accept that! One weekend, my parents went away for the weekend and I had their house to myself. Now 16 year old Sarah would JUMP literally for joy and throw a party (she actually did do that once…) but instead I searched frantically for a friend to stay over - and when I couldn’t find one what did I do?
sulkfest.
all friday night.
I woke up Saturday SUUUPER stoked about this day to myself. I took a shower, took myself out for falafel at Pharoahs and then walked around the craft festival. I ended my dinner watching Katy Perry in 3D, and developed a huuuuuge girl crush on KP.
In all honesty, its something I’ve learned to embrace and love. I’m a very extroverted person, I adore being in the company of others but it felt so refreshing to finally experience having alone time and loving it!

#4. Win something
Ive been having a slow-sluggish morning. I didnt want to get out of bed, and I didnt go for a run like I planned. Family health problems and stressing over this weekend have left me feeling gloomy today, so I stationed myself on the couch with the an aloe water and good luck charlie re-runs.
I intended on kind of avoiding social activity today. I like to lay low on days that I feel like this, so I put my phone on silent and slid it to the other side of the couch, but It lit up and caught my eye so I glanced at the screen and it said “MUCH MUSIC IS FOLLOWING YOU ON TWITTER”
pooped my pants.
I bet you all are thinking what I thought in that moment. HOLY CRAP. SHE GOT THE INTERNSHIP.
no such luck…yet ;) I did however, win a Degrassi prize pack! I freaking LOVE degrassi and have followed it since season 1 (thats almost 12 seasons!) so this little mid-day pick me up was just what i needed :)
I was thinking today, that I have drastically changed over the past 5 years. 5 years ago I was just starting out in my first (and to date, only) serious relationship, in where by the time I was 19, I was convinced I would marry by 21. I was a silly little girl with silly unrealistic goals and no plan for the future what-so-ever.
Eventually, (post break up) I decided that I wasn’t going to marry by 21 (because by then I was 20) but I would make an exception for my porcelain perfect plan, and without a boyfriend in sight, I decided I would be married by 23 instead, and possibly have kids by 25. There, stood my only concrete plan for my future.
Here I am, at 23 years old. No intentions to marry (in the near future) no age set, and absolutely no plans to reproduce (I’ve spent the last 4 months being a full-time babysitter for my niece and nephew…thats enough children for me)
Anyway, today I got to thinking that HOLY CRAP IM ALMOST TWENTY FIVE (that was literally spoken outloud) Freshman college fun is behind me, I dont find the bar fun anymore, and I’d much prefer a glass of sangria or a PBR (I know, terrible beer of choice) on a patio in the afternoon. Im…..an adult.
So without further delay, my “25 things to do before I turn 25” list ( aka 25 things to do while its still socially acceptable/things that may prep me for the future)
1. Run in a fun 5k race
Somewhat recently, I’ve picked up the urge to want to take up running. The cool “red-in-the-face, number pinned to tshirt, frizzy hair, holy what a champ” photos that I see really have encouraged me to want to enter. Any takers to run with me?
2. Take my best friend to new york
If you know my one best friend, Sarah - you know that she and I enjoy a crazy shenannigan filled adventure. For as long as I remember, we’ve been dreaming up this fabulous get a way to New York City. To be able to live out our fantasies of seeing Time Square would be icing on the cake.
3. Go to the Casino
I’ve been to the Casino once. It was a couple months ago, and I was with my mom. We were at OLG for some sort of event and decided to throw five bucks in quickly to see what we could do. We were in for 25 minutes and we left with .60cents. I want to go with some friends and bring a base amount of money and spent some time laughing at what poor luck I have.
4. Win something
Anything! A scratch ticket, tickets to a show, a bike. Just something to bring a smile to my face.
5. Have business cards
Im actually no big deal at all, but I will be one day and when I am, and this blog is something more than pointless banter, I’ll need something to tell people where they can contact me.
6. Be recognized
How cool does “OH MY GOSH, THATS SAREBETH” sound? am i right?
7. Take a course in something I am interested in
So I can get the whole “career” thing going. (That “C” word is terrifying)
8. Do some sort of Adrenaline activity
Zip lining, jumping out of a plane, the new wonderland roller coaster.
9. Take a dance class
Half of the reason I hate going to bars and clubs is that I look absolutely 100% demented on the dance floor.
10. Take a spur of the moment road trip with some friends
Somewhere not in our area code, just for the weekend.
11. Own some sort of stock
I dont actually understand the whole, stock market thing. Educating myself on it, and then attempting to partake in it would perhaps give me a one-up on the grownup scale. Maybe?
12. Go to a movie or dinner alone
Lately, I am so consumed with friendship and clingyness. Living in this huge city has taught me a thing or two about being content with loneliness.
13. Make a close friend from scratch
I have a terrific, tight knit group of girls I call my best friends but the problem is they are currently all a minimum five hours away from me. I want to have a go-to friend here in Ottawa, that I can call up when I want ice cream, or want to go for a walk with.
14. Sit in Sarah’s basement and drink coolers
I can successfully say I was a typical teenager. My friends and I had this one absolutely ridiculous new years (2004 I do believe) where we each asked our parents to buy us a 4 pack of vex to split between us. Little did our parents know that each of them was buying us our own pack. We got together and drank our super sugar calorie infested vodka coolers in Sarahs basement and got drunk for the first time. I broke a table, smashed bottles and covered nearly every inch of the bathroom in vomit. Definitely my classiest affair to date. Despite the fact that I cannot handle and or digest sugary vodka coolers anymore, one more round for old time sake would be hilarious.
15. Accept the fact that I’m going to lose the ones I love
I know its a tad morbid, but for some intense reason, I’ve built this theory in my head that if I consume people with love, they wont ever leave. I love my grandpa more than anyone else on this earth, but he is so old and sick now but I am so convinced that he can live forever.
16. Splurge on a completely unnecessary item
I love things like NARS makeup, J CREW shirts and floral pants from Aritzia but those things are ridiculously out of my budget.
17. Apologize to someone I was a douchebag towards
I know that in the past, I’ve been downright out of line to some friends. A quick facebook message could change a friendship. (must stop saying “douchebag” before I turn 26)
18. Pick a wine-of-choice
You’ve seen it, in all those classy girly movies, all the chic ladies can order their bottle of choice like a man can order his beer. Sadly, I am still in my fruity, $6 wine phase that they don’t serve at restaurants.
19. Try an exotic food
The harder to pronounce, the better.
20. Go technology free for a day
I’ve picked a job path that involves constant interaction with the internet. I need to learn to unplug the macbook and put the iphone down for a day and relax.
21. Learn to do my own taxes
I’ve lucked out over the past few years, my mom did my taxes, then I dated an accounting student, but this year I splurged and ended up spending a cut of my tax refund, by getting them done at H&R block. Learning to do my own would save me begging and save me money.
22. Get rid of my high school clothes
I have an unreal collection of hip huggers (size 1 I might add. :( ), american eagle polos and hoodies that I have not worn in YEARS that I refuse to get rid of.
23. Learn another language
I’ve come to master francais quite well over the years, but I’m still not 100% fluent.
24. Get another tattoo.
I dont know why, but I just feel like somewhere in the late 20’s, it becomes less and less acceptable to get tattoos.
25. Sleep all day.
Ill probably do this one tomorrow.
